My how the mighty have fallen.

So what’s Dann going to do now that he’s no longer attorney general?
He’s going to work for his wife, Alyssa Lenhoff Dann, who sells
Fiestaware on the Internet as a side job, said Mike Harshman, Dann’s
attorney and a confidant.

Confidant: Dann is going to help his wife sell dinnerware over the Internet.

YOUNGSTOWN — During his inaugural address as attorney general Jan. 8, 2007, Marc Dann said he would work to “help restore the public’s trust in our government.”

With his honesty and integrity in question, Dann resigned Wednesday facing a political scandal in his office and possible impeachment.

Republicans and his fellow Democrats called for Dann’s resignation after a May 2 internal attorney general investigation described the office as filled with cronyism, poor management and lacking proper oversight.

Dann refused to step down.

“He was struggling with the reality of the situation,” said Subodh Chandra, a Cleveland lawyer who lost the 2006 Democratic primary for attorney general to Dann.

Dann said he could move past the scandals in his office and be effective. But reality finally set in.

“My conduct has caused the creation of a firestorm of negative publicity that has reached a point where it is preventing the great professionals in the office from doing their important work,” Dann wrote in his resignation letter to Gov. Ted Strickland, who had demanded he quit or be impeached.

“The only way I can ensure that the great work in the office can continue is to take responsibility by resigning,” he added.

So what’s Dann going to do now that he’s no longer attorney general?

He’s going to work for his wife, Alyssa Lenhoff Dann, who sells Fiestaware on the Internet as a side job, said Mike Harshman, Dann’s attorney and a confidant.

Harshman said Dann told that to an attorney general office staffer as he left the office Wednesday. It was a light-hearted comment, but a truthful one, Harshman said.

There are false rumors that Dann is going to work for a Cleveland law firm, Harshman said.

As inspectors arrive, Dann’s future unclear

Even before noon, Attorney General Marc Dann has had a lot of visitors today: Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher met with him again and Inspector General Tom Charles sent a crew over to Dann’s office to get started on a new investigation.

Dann’s campaign spokesman Jason Stanford said earlier Wednesday, May 14, that Dann may be making a statement this afternoon about his political future, but later calls to Stanford have gone unanswered, and his assistant is referring media inquiries to the attorney general’s press secretary, Ted Hart.

“I’m here to tell you I don’t know anything about it,” Hart said.

The Legislature and Gov. Ted Strickland worked in concert Tuesday to quickly pass a law authorizing Charles to investigate Dann’s office and coordinate other ongoing probes.

Dann, a Democrat who won office on campaign promises of open and honest government, tried to negotiate with legislative leaders to avoid an inspector general investigation.

Strickland’s office has yet to receive any notice from Dann, said Keith Dailey, the governor’s press secretary.

Will Dann and Gutierrez will be delivery drivers for Papa John’s in Youngstown?

I found this to be fair different from some of Mike Harden’s columns.

Mike Harden commentary: Goings-on perplexing folks in Methane

And what is it with this Marc Dann thing? Maybe, instead of swearing in politicians, we could better use that time to neuter them instead. I can guarantee you that any time politicians get into a game of musical beds, the last song they play is always So Long, It’s Been Good To Know You.

I don’t know how things are going to shake out for Dann’s buddy Anthony Gutierrez, but isn’t that a wonderful photo of him that we all keep seeing? I mean, how can you look at that face and not want him to be the godfather of your child?

I’m predicting that, in about a month, both Dann and Gutierrez will be delivery drivers for Papa John’s in Youngstown.

What baffles me is that after all that Dann admitted, he is still holding on for dear life. Meanwhile, you’ve got some poor fool down in southeastern Ohio who almost pulled nine months in prison for sharing a Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie with an inmate.

I have a couple of thoughts about this. If Ohio prisons have vending machines that sell Little Debbies, the state’s problem with prison overcrowding isn’t because there are more prisoners. It is because the prisoners already behind bars are eating Little Debbies. That’s all Ohio needs — a corrections system full of supersize ax murderers.

One more thing: Did the culprit actually give another inmate part of his Oatmeal Creme Pie, or did the convict merely want the logo picture of Little Debbie to tape to his cell wall?

I’ll tell you, Mikey, it’s a crazy world out there, and Columbus isn’t helping things much.

My love to all,

Aunt Gracie
